Say Bye to The Stethoscope And "Hello" to Your Smartphone!

Hey everyone,

Recently I have developed an obsession with TED talks. If you don't know what they are, TED is a small nonprofit organization that is devoted to ideas worth spreading. No, TED isn't the name of the founder, it actually stands for, Technology, Entertainment, Design. One TED talk really grabbed my attention and it was named, "The Wireless Future of Medicine" presented by Eric Topol. This TED talk dealt with many state of the art technological advancements in our medical industry and new developments in the future.

Do you know when the stethoscope was invented? Correct. 1816. Almost 200 years ago, and we still use it today. Sure, it's "true and tested" and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" but how about some new flashier devices that are more efficient, accurate and effective? For example, how about using a hand held (the size of a smartphone) ultrasound, which is classified as the "stethoscope of the 21st century." This device can provide an internal view of your organs, systems, and even capture the developing fetus and all of their movements. Not only does this amazing device provide visual wows, it also provides you with cold hard data - your vitals signs.

Talk about neat eh?

A new personal EGG was also created. The average person spends about 1/3 of their life sleeping, why not have a snap shot of how you're doing? This device is exactly like a headband and it accurately calculates the amount of rem sleep, deep sleep, light sleep and many other specific vitals combined with your age to calculate exactly how well you're sleeping! The best part is, all of the information can be transferred to your iPhone or smartphone and can be monitored from there!

Lastly, 1 in every 20 Canadians are affected by diabetes. Now a tiny sensor can be placed just under your skin which has continuous recording so that you always have a valid reading and you never dip above or below what your blood sugar should be at. This is especially beneficial for people with diabetes that are playing sports and the elderly because their blood sugars are constantly fluctuating.

Medical technological advancements are here to stay. They are efficient, accurate and provide more and more information so that the user has a constant reading of exactly how they are doing. The greatest advantage is that we will be able to use our smartphones in order to monitor our vital signs and chronic conditions.

I don't know about you, but when it comes to looking at my vital signs, I'd rather be walking around with my iPhone in my hands, then a stethoscope in my ears!

yes the TEDTalks are a delight to watch and ever so informative. I also watched it and it amazes me the variety of informative talks are being shared.
mind you as with this. . . I am a wee wary of people not going overboard with the use all the new gadgets.. . . good as they are, our subtle energies cannot compete with with the electrical currents and as such the energy fields of all the different intruments for measuring the various aspects of our being. I am thinking much general escaltion of the various diseases, are infact our living in the constant static of electrical fields. compounded, by a couple of hours less sleep at night because we keep the light on well into the evening. topped by breathing in polluted are, drinking doctored up water and eating food that has less nutritional value. . much of it down to 50% of the fresh from our gardens organically grown.

I would really love see all those instruments being used of the effects of different foods. . or say, an ashmatic breathing the air of the comfrey plant. . . or any of the natural remedies. . .like my granddaughter just sat here hacking and coughing all afternoon and i remembered receiving a list of cinnamon and honey remedyes. added to hot lemon, and I've hardly heard her since. if such can be measured and actually checked for the effects. . the medical breakthroughs will really become astounding.
may I also suggest the Paul Stamets on mushrooms. had a mesh of thoughts come to mind if only because all the different bacteria are different medicines and it much better to simply breathe them in than finangle different medicines with them. The new Jamie Armstrong on food is a runaway hit with over a 130.000 clicks in 3 weeks. with none about of growing your own. which has us breathe the air of the plants and showering every cell of our being with its medicines. and on that note, we will close for this evening
